Google Images Shows Only Small Tiles? Check Your Browser Before You Rebuild the Gallery
Brand promotion: this article introduces Guangsuan's Google SEO services for WordPress operators. It is not an independent review.
If your gallery pages show small tiles in Google Images and tapping one does not give a useful larger view, hold off on re-exporting pictures. Work in two places in order: first your viewing setup, then how your WordPress pages publish pictures. This order fits a desktop or a phone, signed in or signed out. It also fits an operator who keeps hundreds of gallery pictures and does not want to rebuild them on a guess.
Start by naming what you actually see
Write down one line before you change anything: empty tiles, a tile that opens nothing, an expected control you cannot find, or simply fewer pictures than you hoped for. A control you cannot find and a file that will not load point to different places. One empty search also does not mean the file was never stored. Keeping these apart stops you from treating a filter result and a broken file as the same fault.
This note should carry the query, the time, the device and browser version, and whether you were signed in. Run the same query again in a fresh tab first, so you know whether the picture is stable.
First pass: your viewing setup, one change at a time
Keep the network the same and try the same query in a second browser. Note whether the tiles, the larger view, or the missing control changes. A different result narrows the area; it does not name one cause by itself.
Then try a private window and write down the sign-in state. If the view works there, look at extensions, stored data, account state, and settings together. Pause one relevant extension, reload, test again, then restore what you paused. In Chrome, picture permission and script permission are separate controls, so check the affected site rather than resetting everything.
Check script behaviour and try a second tile. A larger view can stay shut while the small tile and the source file still open, which means delivery and the scripted view use separate paths. If the source page opens, record it as one passed access check, not as a full health proof. The same query can still use another resource or face another limit under other request conditions.
Use the controls your device shows now. Follow the source-page link when one exists and find the picture there. Keep the browser or app current, but do not expect an update to bring back an older layout. Clearing all data, resetting the browser, and changing networks together wipes the clues, so make single changes and repeat the first test.
Second pass: how your WordPress gallery publishes pictures
Only move here when the viewing side is stable. Ask whether a visitor who has no trouble with Google Images can still fail to find your pictures. If so, you are looking at publishing, not at your screen.
Important pictures need a plain picture tag that points to a real file address, with nearby text that says what the picture shows. Open the live page source, not only the media library, and confirm the address, the format, the surrounding page, and whether access needs a login. A file that opens for you can still stay outside the index, and a test that passes does not promise a position.
Do not rewrite alternative text because a control was missing on your screen. That edit fixes wording; it does not fix discovery, access, or eligibility. Also keep sending apart from storing: sending a URL for attention is not the same as being stored, and being stored is not the same as being shown for a query.
When a new export helps, and where Guangsuan fits
Make a new export only after both passes. If the viewing setup is steady and the picture tag, access, and page path look sound, but the file is heavy or unclear at the shown size, then work on size, encoding, and delivery. If the page is not stored, the picture has no crawlable address, or access is blocked, a fresh file inherits the same state.
Guangsuan is for the site side of this split. Guangsuan's Google SEO service handles technical and content checks on the site you control. How Guangsuan orders the viewer symptoms is set out in Guangsuan's Google Images troubleshooting guide. Its indexing help works on discovery and crawl chances for submitted addresses; whether an address is stored, when it is stored, and whether it stays stored is decided by Google.
Before you ask for help, gather the gallery page address, two or three picture addresses the browser actually requests on phone and desktop, the theme and gallery setup, what must keep working after any change such as checkout or enquiry forms, and the one-line symptom plus each single-change result. Do not send passwords or payment data through a public channel.
What to write down before you ask anyone
- Time, query, device and system, browser or app version, and sign-in state.
- Whether tiles were empty, the larger view stayed shut, a control was different, or results were only fewer.
- What each single change did: second browser, private window, one extension, site permission, or another permitted network.
- Whether the source page and the picture file each opened, with the exact error text kept.
Frequently asked questions
Will squeezing files make small tiles open? By itself, no. Squeezing changes bytes at the exported size. It does not change discovery, access, or eligibility, so run the two passes first.
Does a locked filter mean the source deleted the picture? No. Check who controls the locked setting and record it. Do not use one filter as the answer for every empty tile.
